We appreciate the chance to introduce you to A Better U Beauty Barber Academy, a school dedicated to producing skilled, creative professionals in the hair business. Please review the enrollment packet and submit an application to enroll in our barber school.
Admissions Process
- Complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid Form (FASFA) at fasfa.ed.gov. As you work your way through the form, you will be asked to provide a student code. Our student code is 042833. After completing the FASFA be sure you send it to A Better U Beauty/Barber Academy by email Kim Love (klove@abuacademy.com) or in person at 5400 Phoenix Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. You can also call us at 505-265-4777. We will contact you accordingly, after we pull your ISIR report.
- Complete the enrollment form below. Make sure you have all the attachments listed below BEFORE you begin the application.
- Attachments- To enroll in any course offered by the school, a student MUST provide:
- Two copies of identification: (Driver’s License, State Identification Card, Birth Certificate or baptismal certificate). Prospective students must be at least seventeen (17) years old.
If you’re paying cash: Proof of at least two years of high school education: Diploma (HS or College, G.E.D. Test or Other). Down payment is required.
- If you’re using Financial Aid: Proof of high school education: (Diploma, Transcript or G.E.D.) a.2022 Tax Returns and W2’s (If you are under age twenty-four (24) with no children, not married or not in the military your parent’s taxes will be required.) If you or your parents did not file 2022 taxes and not required to file, please submit W-2’s for 2022.
- Letter of Intent: your interest, goals and aspirations in the hairstyling/barbering Industry
- Letter of Recommendation: From an authoritive figure, mentor, supervisor, etc. (Not a family member)
- Cashier Check or Domestic Money Order: Payable to the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists for your Barber Permit/License
- Non-refundable: Student Permit Fee – $25.00 online payment to New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists required to receive a Barber Permit/License
- Non-refundable: Application Fee $100.00 cash, credit card, money order or cashier check
- Two (2) – 2×2 Passport Photos: Can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Sam’s Club, etc.
